Tennessee Williams was born in 1911 in Columbus, Mississippi, where his grandfather was the episcopal clergyman. When his father, a travelling salesman, moved with his family to St Louis some years later, both he and his sister found it impossible to settle down to city life. He entered college during the Depression and left after a couple of years to take a clerical job in a shoe company. He stayed there for two years, spending the evenings writing. He entered the University of Iowa in 1938 and completed his course, at the same time holding a large number of part-time jobs of great diversity. He received a Rockefeller fellowship in 1940 for his play Battle of Angels, and he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 for A Streetcar Named Desire and in 1955 for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Other plays include Summer and Smoke, The Rose Tattoo, Camino Real, Baby Doll, The Glass Menagerie, Orpheus Descending, Suddenly Last Summer, The Night of the Iguana, Sweet Bird of Youth, and The Two-Character Play. Tennessee Williams died in 1983.

Hermione Gulliford returns to Notting Hill in the role of Helena. Previous productions at the Print Room include Amygdala and Lot and His God. Television credits include Count Arthur Strong, Foyles War, Call the Midwife, Lewis, Utopia, Upstairs Downstairs, Hustle, Rev, The IT Crowd, All About George, Monarch of the Glen and Oktober.

Laura Rogers plays Dorothea. Her theatre credits include Private Lives (UK tour), Tipping The Velvet (Lyric Hammersmith), An Ideal Husband, Blue Remembered, Hay Fever (Chichester Festival Theatre), Yvonne (Royal Court), Revelations (Hampstead Theatre), The Comedy of Errors (Globe & US tour) Macbeth, A New World, As You Like It, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Timon of Athens, The Taming of the Shrew, Richard III (all Globe), The 39 Steps (West End). TV credits include Doctor Who Christmas Special, Bad Girls and The Sins.

Julia Watson plays Miss Gluck. Her theatre credits include The Sisterhood (Belgrade Theatre), Horizontal Collaboration (Traverse), The Man Who Pays The Piper and Tosca’s Kiss (Orange Tree), My Family And Other Animals, The Seagull (York Theatre Royal), Amy’s View (Nottingham Playhouse), Exchange (Vaudeville Theatre), She Stoops to Conquer and Wild Honey (National Theatre). Her television credits include Welcome to Orty-Fou, A Touch of Spice and Never the Twain.

Michael Oakley is a freelance theatre director. Most recently, he directed Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s THE INVISIBLE at the Bush Theatre, and Caroline Quentin in April De Angelis’ THE LIFE AND TIMES OF FANNY HILL at Bristol Old Vic Theatre. In 2012 Michael was Co-Artistic Director of Theatre on the Fly – a pop-up venue, designed by Turner Award winning Architects Assemble, at Chichester Festival Theatre – where he directed a production of April De Angelis’ PLAYHOUSE CREATURES. Prior to this, Michael was Trainee Director in Residence at Chichester and a recipient of the prestigious JMK Award for young directors. In addition to working alongside Trevor Nunn, he has been associate director to Jonathan Kent, Richard Eyre, Adrian Noble and Jonathan Church.

Fotini Dimou ( Designer ) is delighted to return to the Print Room at the Coronet .  She previously designed sets and costumes at the old Print Room ,for “Lot and his God “ by Howard Barker.  Fotini trained as set and costume designer at the Central School of Art and Design after studying Fine Art for a year at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Boitsfort in Brussels Belgium .After her studies she spent five years working as a designer in NY for off Broardway productions and finally as resident costume designer at the Alley theatre in Houston Texas .  She returned to the UK and has been working extensively as a designer in Theatres such as the Royal Shakespeare Company in STRATFORD and London ,The National theatre , the Royal Court , the Chichester Festival Theatre , for several fringe theatres as  well as for  the West End and for National tours .  She has also designed Operas for The ENO , the Royal Opera House , Wexford Opera , Scottish Opera touring company and Opera North, Leeds .  Her work extends to Europe as well as the US where she has designed for Opera and Dance for companies such as La Scala in Milan , Baden Baden Festspielhaus , Geneva Opera , and the Metropolitan Opera in NY .  This year she designed the costumes for “Manon Lescaut “ at the NY Met and “An Italian in Madrid “ for Richard Alston Dance Company at Saddlers Wells .  She also designs for TV dramas and feature films .  She won this year’s BAFTA costume design TV award for her work on “The Dresser “ a BBC TV film starring Ian McKellen and Anthony Hopkins .

David Plater – (Lighting Designer) David was previously head of lighting at the Donmar Warehouse, and has been Resident Lighting Designer for Ballet Black since their formation in 2001. David’s nominations for design include Olivier, Tony, and Drama Desk Award nominations for Best Lighting Design for Bring Up The Bodies (Winter Gardens Broadway, Aldwych, West End); Knight of Illumination Award for Richard II (Best Play Lighting) in 2012 and for This is My Family (Best Musical Lighting) in 2013.
