Only the person who has experienced light and darkness, war and peace, rise and fall, only that person has truly experienced life.

Stefan Zweig, born in Vienna, was one of the leading writers of his day. Because he was a Jew, his work was banned and burned by the Nazis.

Zweig’s captivating autobiography, spanning 1895 to 1941, takes us from Vienna’s golden age to the rise of the far right and the ravaging war that was the ‘suicide of Europe’. A lament for a lost world, this stage adaptation is a testament to the values of decency, humanism, and artistic endeavour.

The World of Yesterday will be performed in French with English surtitles.
